Once you sign in to Rise, you will see a menu with access to existing courses and the option to create new ones. There is a sample course, too, that will help you to explore all the cool features of Rise. It will be tempting to jump in and start creating a course with all the swanky features, but ideally, you should go through the sample course, first.
What will make you fall in love with Rise?
Anyone who sees the final output with Rise is sure to fall in love with the tool. Developers love working on it too! Here are a few reasons why Rise may be just what you need for your online learning needs.
Simple yet effective user interface
Articulate is known for its simple yet effective user interface. Rise, too, is clean and intuitive. The navigation is simple and the design minimalist. The learners will be able to focus on learning and not be distracted with the layout.
From a developer’s point-of-view, it is simple and easy to use. You can create fabulous looking modules with ease, and even adjust the sequence of the various elements with ease by sampling moving things around. You don’t need to download or install any software. Your browser is enough. You don’t even need a plugin to access future updates. You can add media, text, links, audio, video, and other elements at the click of a button.
You can add and edit content on the fly without spending too much time. Rise allows you to display the menu on the left, on large devices. With smaller devices, the menu can be collapsed. The menu lists the sections and lesson titles. The navigation is simple too. You have the option to either keep it open or lock it.
Many learners prefer using their desktops or laptops for accessing learning. But with the rapid explosion of mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and phablets, most learners prefer to learn on the move, now. Creating a truly responsive learning is a huge challenge for developers. They would love it if there was a way to know how the modules look on multiple devices, even while building them.
It does not make sense to spend time and effort to recreate different versions of a course for diverse platforms! Who has time for that? But you can’t restrict the learners on the device they choose to access the course. So, what is the solution?
This is where Articulate ‘Rise’ to the occasion. You have to design the course once, and you are done. No matter which device the learner uses, the user experience will be the same. Rise allows you to preview how the course will look on different devices and modes (landscape versus portrait). There is a range of preview buttons (Desktop, Tablet Portrait, Tablet Landscape, Mobile Portrait, and Mobile Landscape) on the page for you to view the final output while you are building it. You can click the buttons and make the relevant changes as you build the page. Isn’t this a super cool feature?
When you are finally happy with the output, you can export it in several formats, SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, Tin Can, and the web only. Download the zip file and load it on to the LMS. It is advisable to test it out before launching it to a wider audience.
Pre-built lessons and blocks
Pre-built lessons, on Rise, help you design the course better. Here are the lessons available.
Video/Audio: You can use this lesson to add interactive multimedia like video and audio.
Labeled graphic: With this lesson, you can add hotspots on an image.
Content library: The library has several course templates and images for you to use. The templates are professionally designed and help you build your course quickly. You can access several illustrated and photographic characters and expressions to craft realistic scenarios.
Process and timeline: Process helps you design a step-by-step flow. You can even add audio, video, and images vertically. Timeline is like process but allows you to present content horizontally.
Sorting: This helps you to create drag-and-drop interaction.
URL/Embed: Go ahead and embed YouTube videos or HTML canvas games with this lesson.
Quiz: With this lesson, you can build multiple-choice questions assessments to evaluate the learners’ understanding. You can randomize the questions. As of now, you can use text-based single-select questions.
Blocks: This is one of the most powerful features of Rise. It acts as modular components to customize the lessons. You have the flexibility to create custom modules that are not possible with the pre-built lessons. You can stack these blocks one below the other to create your desired layouts. The Block Library will offer you the options like text, multimedia, video, accordion, flash cards, tabs, and so on.
Articulate Rise has huge potential, especially with its focus on being truly responsive. It is a great tool for micro-learning and suited for shorter courses with simple content. Since it is user-friendly, even people with non-technical background can work on it.
